The Hirsch Family, owners and operators of the Montreal Beach Resort in Cape May, NJ for 50 years, is honored to have recently been awarded a 3G and Beyond Award by SNJ Business People (SNJBP). The Award recognizes South Jersey area, third-generation (and beyond) family-owned businesses for their dedicated commitment to making South Jersey the best place to work, live and raise a family.
The fact that generations of the Hirsch Family not only exist today, but successfully thrive behind a 50-year legacy, is nothing less than miraculous. This Cape May hotel’s founder, the late Harry Hirsch, was 15 when the Nazi army invaded Poland and he was imprisoned in Auschwitz. He and his wife, Sophie, survived Nazi Germany to eventually come to America and live the American dream—opening the doors to the Montreal in 1966.
Today, this Cape May family-friendly hotel is lovingly maintained by co-principals Larry Hirsch and Joseph Hirsch; and Larry’s son Jonathan, third-generation family member and the director of food and beverage operations.
“About 30% of family owned businesses are turned into second generation businesses, 12% are passed down to the third, only about 3% operation into the fourth generation or beyond, so families, like the Hirsches, who achieve such a feat is truly worth recognition,” said Jenny Ryan, Founder and CEO, SNJ Business People.
“We know Harry – my grandfather – would be pleased and proud of this recognition, and the changes and improvements we’re making on an ongoing basis here at the resort,” said Jonathan Hirsch. “He always encouraged the staff and the family to push our boundaries, and try new things to make the customer experience even better – we’re doing just that, and more, and invite everyone to visit and revisit our resort for the sheer enjoyment of it,” he added.
“We’ve been part of the Cape May community for 50 years, and we’re committed to maintaining our long-time tradition of treating customers like they are members of our family. We also continually aim to keep up with trends and incorporate unique amenities that are found only at our resort,” added Larry Hirsch.
Today, the Montreal Beach Resort is a true Cape May resort. Unlike any typical seaside experience, the resort stays true to its core value of treating customers like family – maintaining the family-friendly atmosphere upon which it was built, while keeping its amenities modern and appealing. Today, the Montreal Beach Resort is one of only a handful of hotels along the entire Jersey Shore to remain under the continuous management of one family.
SNJ Business People is a monthly business publication containing the who, what, when, where and why all about the great business owners and leaders in the Southern New Jersey Region. Their focus is on great business people and what they are doing to give back to the community.
