Dog friendly Cape May is the place to visit in 2023. While we don’t allow pets at Montreal Beach Resort (it’s our mission to ensure all guests stay in exceptionally clean – allergens-free – rooms), we do welcome them on our rooftop patio at Harry’s and we celebrate them every October at our Doggy Dip by the Pool event to benefit Animal Outreach of Cape May County.

So, please read on for the best dog friendly Cape May recommendations for traveling with fido in 2023.

Things to do with Dogs in Cape May

In Cape May, there are many dog friendly activities to do and places to visit with your four-legged best friend. Our top recommendations are:

Dog Friendly Cape May Establishments and Activities:

  • Harry’s Ocean Bar & Grille
  • Beach Plum Farm
  • The Blue Pig Tavern
  • Harpoons on the Bay
  • Bella Vida Garden Café
  • 5 West Pub
  • Fins Bar & Grille

Doggie Dip at the Pool | October 2023

Join us for our favorite annual event, Doggie Dip at the Pool. Every year, before we drain our oceanfront pool for the winter season, we open it for an afternoon of dog paddling, literally! Admission is $10 per dog and all proceeds benefit Animal Outreach of Cape May County. Plus, the first 25 swimmers get a special treat bag and all pup parents receive 25% off lunch at Harry’s. It’s the perfect way to show your dog a little extra love and attention.

Dog Friendly Cape May Beaches

Bring your pooch to a number of dog friendly Cape May beaches, September or November through March. It’s kind of a universal thing – dogs love the beach. Luckily, in the fall, there are many dog friendly Cape May beaches to explore.

Cape May City Beach

Dogs are allowed on Cape May City Beach November through March. Dogs must be on a leash and owners must clean up after their dogs.

Higbee Beach

Higbee Beach allows dogs September through April, from 5am to 9pm. For more information about Higbee Beach and rules of conduct for dogs, read NJ Department of Fish & Wildlife Regulations.

Cape May Point

At Cape May Point, dogs are permitted November through March 14 and they must be always leashed on a tether no longer than six feet.

Sunset Beach

Bring dogs to Sunset Beach September 15 through April 15. Typical guidelines apply, dogs must be leashed, and owners must pick up after their dogs.

Cape May Point State Park

Dogs are prohibited from Cape May Point State Park and the Cape May Migratory Bird Refuge to protect vulnerable chicks of the federally protected Piping Plovers and Least Terns.

We hope to see you this weekend for Doggie Dip in the pool. Visit us at Montreal Beach Resort for the best ocean views in Cape May. Learn more about our seaside resort.
