The Halloween season is upon us. And, each year, Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities offers a unique selection of tours and events that highlight this spooky time of year. If you’re a fan of ghosts, goblins, and all things that go bump in the night, it’s definitely time to visit Cape May. Things get more than a little spirited around here in October. Let’s take a look at this year’s Halloween Happenings, from October 11 through 31.

Behind the Scenes: H.H. Holmes – the Monster Behind the Man

Everyone knows about Jack the Ripper, the madman who terrorized London in 1888. But in the US, on the dark streets of Chicago, there lurked another monster, maybe even more sinister. Dive into the depraved depths of the life of H.H. Holmes, America’s first serial killer. Learn of his important connection to Philadelphia, and realize how terrifying it was for Victorians to read about the horrific killings that plagued the city. Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St. Audience discretion is advised. Sundays, October 20, 27 at 7 pm and 8:30 pm. Thursday, October 31, 9 pm.

Phantoms of the Physick Estate

Victorians were fascinated by Spiritualism and the occult. This Halloween season, visit the haunted Physick Estate to learn about this Victorian obsession. Listen to electronic voice phenomenon (EVP) that 21st-century technology has captured at the estate, and learn why they are more likely to have come from ghosts than a living thing. Appropriate for all ages. Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St.

Murder Mystery Dinner – Bumped Off and Bottoms Up

Prohibition has arrived and that means locals and visitors alike gather at Walter O’Leary’s notorious club for refreshments and entertainment. But, after an evening of fun takes a horrible turn, you’re recruited to help bring a murderer to justice. Talk with the cast of likely suspects and try to solve the mystery as you enjoy a four-course meal. The scene is set at the Inn of Cape May, 7 Ocean Street.
