Manga

See a Show

Many are surprised to learn that Cape May is a popular spot for theater lovers. East Lynn Theatre Company is one of several organizations that brings a blend of provocative and timeless performances to the community. This award-winning theater is a must-not-miss on your next trip to Cape May. Another outstanding theatre company is Cape May Stage which continues its performance season through the fall with traditional, contemporary, and new works. For years actors, directors, and playwrights from all over the country have performed world-class theatre in this historic venue.

Visit the Emlen Physick Estate

If you’re intrigued by Cape May’s Victorian heritage, visit the 1879 Emlen Physick Estate for a look at life as it was lived more than 100 years ago. The estate is haunted, so if you want to learn more join the Phantoms of the Physick Estate walking tour that focuses on the estate’s “spirited” residents. Other seasonal attractions include MAC Historic Haunts Tours, a séance at the Physick Estate, Ghosts of Cape May Trolley Tours, and more.

Visit a Cape May Museum

There are several museums and historical sites to visit in Cape May. All are great. We recommend the Cape May Fireman’s Museum and The Harriet Tubman Museum on rainy days. The Cape May Fireman’s Museum is free to the public. Talk to career personnel on staff will be happy to assist and answer any questions. Plus, Cape May’s Antique Fire Engine is a 1928 American La France and is housed inside the museum.

As for The Harriet Tubman Museum, most people know about Cape May’s Victorian heritage and maritime legacy, but few know that the town played a pivotal role in the fight to end slavery. Harriett Tubman, for example, spent summers in Cape May between 1850 and 1852. Visit the museum to learn more about this important time in Cape May’s history. The museum is located on a block that anti-slavery activists called home. Lafayette Street and Franklin Street became a center of abolitionist activity, centered around three important buildings developed in 1846.
